Clyde Beats: People – “Serve It Up feat. Capitol A”

Every track has a story. And in Clyde Beats: People, it’s the people behind the music who take centre stage.

In this episode, Clyde Beats explores the making of “Serve It Up feat. Capitol A” — a rich blend of broken beat, rap and soul, featuring the unmistakable vocals of Capitol A and Jane Hamilton. But the story runs deeper than the groove.

This track came to life thanks to a group of creative collaborators and moments that shaped its sound. From producers and vocalists to chance conversations, each person left a mark. And, as for the remixes, well…

Clyde Beats - Serv It Up. News

The Unbelievable Origins of Jerk Beat

In the bustling city of Derby, UK, amidst the rhythmic clatter of the manufacturing industry, there lived a humble beatmaker named Clyde Beats. Clyde Beats was no ordinary producer – he had a knack for concocting beats that were as wonky as they were funky. In fact, there was one project whereby the snare drums were so early that they had to be released as a separate download/stream a week before the rest of the album.

Legend has it that one rainy afternoon, taking inspiration from his heroes who include J Dilla, DJ Premier, Pete Rock and many more, while tinkering away in his makeshift studio, Clyde Beats accidentally spilt a pot of the previous night’s masala dal onto his trusty Akai S3000 sampler. Instead of cursing his misfortune, Clyde Beats decided to embrace the chaos and incorporate the sounds of Derby’s favourite dish into his music.

To his amazement, the mishap resulted in a sound so peculiar, so irresistibly wonky, that Clyde Beats couldn’t help but groove along. He dubbed it “Jerk Beat” and the rest, as they say, is history.

Word of Clyde’s quirky creation spread like wildfire throughout Derby, from the streets of Normanton to the clubs of Darley Abbey. Soon, local artists were lining up to collaborate with Clyde Beats, eager to add a touch of Derby’s unique flavour to their music.

With its wonky beats and basslines, offbeat samples, and unmistakably Derbyshire charm, Jerk Beat became the city’s anthem – a testament to Clyde’s ingenuity and creativity.

As the years went by, Jerk Beat continued to evolve, laying the foundations for the rebirth of Hip House (Listen to Clyde – Serve It Up featuring Capitol A) spreading far beyond the borders of Derby to captivate audiences around the world. But no matter how far it travelled, its heart remained firmly rooted in the streets where it was born.

Today, Clyde Beats may be just a name in the annals of Derby’s musical history, but his legacy lives on in every wonky, jerky beat. So the next time you find yourself tapping your feet to the sounds of Jerk Beat Hip Hop, remember the humble origins of this beloved genre – and raise a toast to Clyde Beats, the unsung hero of Derby’s music scene.
